Important Announcement: The Future of Classcraft

Shawn YoungFebruary 21, 2024

Dear Educators,

I hope this message finds you thriving in your classrooms and your ongoing commitment to supporting your students. As the VP, Product Management and Strategy, Core Digital Classroom Experience at HMH, and former CEO of Classcraft, I write today with important updates about the future of our beloved platform.

The Sunset of Original Classcraft and the Rise of HMH Classcraft

After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to sunset the original Classcraft platform on June 30, 2024. While we cherish the countless stories of success and positive impact fueled by Classcraft, we are also guided by our mission to constantly improve and integrate our best solutions to offer educators the most streamlined and effective tools.

To that end, we are excited to unveil HMH Classcraft TM (insert link to Press Release). This evolved platform represents our vision for the next generation of interactive learning experiences and enhanced instructional practices. It builds upon the gamification foundations of the original Classcraft, with a renewed emphasis on simplifying teaching tasks, aligning activities with standards, and offering formative assessment tools within a centralized environment.

Understanding the Changes

It’s essential to acknowledge that HMH Classcraft will not instantly replicate every feature of the original platform, especially components related to gamification and behavior management. Our team is fully committed to reintegrating these vital elements over time but cannot confirm their immediate availability by June 30th.

Additionally, we cannot offer an automated transition path to HMH Classcraft for individual teachers. Currently, the new platform is available for purchase primarily by schools and districts.

Appreciation and a Look Ahead

Your passion for Classcraft has consistently inspired us over the years. Thank you for the immeasurable difference you’ve made in the lives of students through your unique adoption of our platform. As a former teacher myself, I understand how change can be disruptive, but together we are well-positioned to harness the potential that HMH Classcraft offers. We invite you to join us on this new journey with the shared goal of student engagement and transformative learning experiences. It’s been one heck of a ride to get here and we look forward to having an even bigger impact on education in the years to come!

Frequently asked Questions:

Q: Why was this decision made?

This was not an easy decision to make, but ultimately, it was the right one to continue our mission to impact as many children as possible. We’re currently building HMH Classcraft, a version of the platform that directly integrates core curriculum, and it was simply not viable to maintain both platforms. We want to continue to deliver easy, engaging and playful experiences to students and to do so requires incredible focus and investment, which manifests as pooling our energies into a single effort.

Q: What are the next steps for current Classcraft users?

Teacher Users: If you have any educational resources within Classcraft that you wish to keep, please begin the process of saving those on your personal devices or drives.

Admin Users: Make sure to document any information you wish to keep beyond June 30, 2024, whether that be your PBIS matrix or school store inventory. If you also want student data, you will want to download any reports you feel may be useful (schoolwide data or individual student data).

Q: What will happen to the Quests, Random events and Behaviors I’ve created?

We invite you to copy and paste everything you would like to keep into a document in order to conserve your content. All Classcraft data will be wiped when the platform goes offline on July 1, 2024.

Q: What about free users that wish to purchase Classcraft until June 30, 2024?

New users who wish to sign up for a free account and/or sign up for the prorated premium teacher license will be able to do so until March 1, 2024. As of March 1, 2024, there will be no way to create a new Classcraft account or upgrade to the Premium package for Classcraft.

Q: Who does my principal contact if we’d like to acquire access to HMH Classcraft? Can anyone help me in convincing my District?

On the HMH Classcraft webpage, you can click “Contact Sales” to be put in contact with someone who can help you explore the possibilities of HMH Classcraft for your class, school, or district.

Q: Will the volume meter web page stay active?

If you would still like to use Classcraft’s free volume meter, you can still access it at https://www.classcraft.com/lp/volume-meter/ for now.

Q: Will all my data be erased completely from your servers on June 30, 2024?

Yes.

Q: What will happen to my yearly individual teacher Premium subscription, will I get refunded?

All 2024 subscriptions were already prorated to $10 per month left until June 30, 2024. This means that you have only paid for the months you had access to the platform in 2024.

Q: How can I celebrate my students’ success while commemorating Classcraft?

There is so much to celebrate at the end of the school year. Honor everyone’s growth and success with a Classcraft end-of-year celebration.
