Lunae

Lunae is a snailmoth common to the western Ruined Lands of Morian Island. They’re frequently sighted on cliff walls or in dense forestation — anywhere it’s wet or a warm temperature. For some reason, the corruption in the Ruined Lands provides an excellent home for these creatures.

Lunae was released in-game with Episode 6 of Story Mode.

Appearance

The ooze that snailmoths produce is super sticky, allowing them to climb steep surfaces and even upside-down. Their hard shells protect their soft bodies and are thought to safely incubate insect-like wings. Later in a snailmoth’s life, it sheds its shell and is able to take flight — essentially becoming like a moth. The furry appendages on its head are a kind of antennae.

The thick fur around a snailmoth’s head helps keep it warm and supports the weight of its neck, and the thin frill under its shell aid in secreting the creature’s sticky slime, which keeps its body waterproof and traps in heat.

Ecology

Snailmoths are herbivores, eating algae or leafy vegetation that they find in forests.

Story Ideas

  • What are the differences between snailmoths who thrive in the corruption on Morian Island and those that don’t? Write about the findings of a Guardian studying these mysterious mollusks.
  • A daring Guardian decides snailmoths are a new delicacy. How does the rest of the tribe react? (Do they get stomachaches, refuse to eat them, or find their new favorite snack food?)
